The paper reviews the concept of "genre" under the premise that it is not only a form of organization and characterization of speech, but also the shaping of a series of social practices. In this way, it suggests that journalistic genres conditions not only the media discourse, but the work of journalists, the use of different supports and the disposal of the audiences. For these reasons, it concludes that it's necessary a sociological approach for the study of journalistic's genres.
