Film and History are two areas of knowledge that work according to their own rules and techniques, but share the field of description and interpretation that seeks every society in relation to facts and truthful social constructions made by signs, symbols and representations. The present work is a theoretical review of the contributions that film has made to the discipline of history and the contribution that the media have on memory retrieval achieved through fictions and documentaries as study material for the history and understanding of cultural symbols in a society.
