Abstract

Based upon an analysis of image formation and stereotyping in Veja Magazine, this article examines brazilian media coverage of Hugo Chavez ́s government and death. The Venezuelan commander, who presided the country for over fourteen years, had his image built and defined not only from a political perspective, but also from a cultural and mythic point of view. The research and analysis havedetected a great effort of this Brazilian magazine in constructing a stereotypical image whose strict features were predetermined beyond the facts.
