Antisocials: the discourse of “Paz” Ciudadana

Abstract

Th e recurrect use of the words "antisocial" and "antisocials" in Chilean's media is no longer anexlclusive part of the crime section press, to apply also in the social protests criminalization and, in general, in the breaking of the social established order. Instead, the press exempts the dictator Augusto Pinochet and other notorious Human Rights criminals who commited antisocials behaviour, and also pedophiles and fr audsters. The label of the words "antisocial" and "antisocials" is discriminatory and classist, confi rming that discourses translate words and at the same time actions, and form, in this case, meanings and media devices att ached to the power operated for the exclusion.
